come alcuni di voi sapranno, ad ottobre 2009 mi sono trasferito a Vienna. Questo mi ha permesso di intrecciare stretti rapporti con Koloman Mayrhofer e con i bellissimi progetti che sta realizzando attraverso Craftlab, da lui stesso definiti come "aeroplani della Grande Guerra di tarda produzione"
Nei nostri incontri settimanali abbiamo piu' volte discusso su quella che consideriamo la più grave pecca per gli appassionati di aviazione: ovvero la virtuale impossibilità ad accedere a velivoli del Primo Conflitto Mondiale, per non parlare della possibilità di studiarli a distanza ravvicinata e magari, toccarli con mano.
La bellissima collezione di Albatros, Bleriot, ali di Fokker e motori(guardate qui www.theaerodrome.com/forum/replica-aircraft/35610-albatros-d-ii-d-iii-ne... offre in tal senso un'occasione unica: Koloman Mayrhofer ha acconsentito a condividere con gli appassionati le sue esperienze e le sue conoscenze.
Le stesse considerazioni e la volonta' di garantire un facile accesso a documentazione originale poertarono alla nascita di AvioEBooks

come potete notare l'evento sarà suddiviso in una sezione teorica ed una pratica in cui avrete la possibilità di vedere i lavori in corso presso Craftlab, quali la costruzione di un caccia OEFFAG Albatros ed il restauro di un motore LeRhone. Koloman ed i suoi impiegati vi guideranno attraverso tutti i segreti e le conoscenze acquisite durante i 15 anni di attività di Craftlab.
La discussione degli aspetti teorici servirà a creare una base comune di conoscenze che permetteranno di apprezzare la meglio gli aspetti pratici del corso. Tenendo in considerazione l'estensione e la complessità dell'argomento, al termine del corso verrà create una newsletter ed apposite spazi dove discutere ed approfondire gli argomenti di interesse.
Quindi un week end completamente adatto a tutti gli appassionati di aviazione, dagli storici ai costruttori dalla scala 1:144 alla 1:1. Se trovi interessante la possibilità di avere un incontro ravvicinato con un vero caccia Albatros e sentire il profumo del legno, il tutto mentre hai le mani “impegnante” questa è decisamente la tua occasione!
L’evento è pianificato per la fine di agosto o le prime settimane di settembre e sarà tenuto a Vienna (Austria) presso le officine Craftlab in Gatterederstrasse 20
L’evento sarà tenuto in lingua inglese ma , in caso di necessità sarà possibile avere supporto linguistico in italiano e tedesco. 
dopo una discussione con Koloman Mayrhofer sui costi del WWI Aviation Technology Week End, ci siamo alla fine orientati per la seguente proposta:

L'iscrizione all'evento costerà 90 euro e comprenderà:

• due giorni di presentazione composti da:
• un'introduzione teorica sulla tecnologia aeronautica della Prima Guerra Mondiale, attraverso una presentazione comparata dei risultati ottenuti in diverse nazioni belligeranti
• una dimostrazione pratica delle attività in corso presso Craftlab. Ad esempio: dopo un'introduzione teorica sulle eliche e sul loro impiego, Koloman Mayrhofer mostrerà "in diretta" come veniva realizzata un'elica durante la Grande Guerra.
• un servizio buffet per le due pause pranzo e, in considerazione delle condizioni metereologiche, una grigliata per il sabato sera
• un DVD sui contenuti affrontati durante l'evento

Il WWI Aviation Technology Week End si terrà a Vienna in Gatterederstrasse 20 1230, presso le officine di Craftlab nei giorni 28 e 29 agosto 2010.

I moved to Vienna in October 2009 and this allowed me to get closer to Koloman Mayrhofer and his wonderful job in Craftlab: a “very late production” and restoration company focused on WWI aircraft.
In our weekly meetings we discussed over and over again about what we consider one of the greatest lack of our common passion: if it’s very hard to have the chance to access to the original WW1 aircrafts, it’s almost impossible to properly study them and touch with bare hand the real stuff.
Craftlab amazing collection of Albatross, Bleriot and Fokker wings….. (just see the related thread here) it’s a unique opportunity in this sense: Koloman Mayrhofer will get people to have a closer look to his work , his knowledge and experience.
The same consideration comes about granting an easy access to the original documentation and the reference material: as you know this is the idea that gave me the inspiration to create my AvioEBooks project (for more info see www.avioebooks.com)

As you can see the weekend would be structured with a theoretical part and a practical one. The open discussion on theoretical aspects will aim to give to the attendant a general background of the technology knowledge available in the WWI era and how it has been developed trough wartime. Considering the complexity of the topic and how many aspect have still to be properly discussed, after the weekend meeting we will create a feedback newsletter in order to allow people to ask further questions, raise doubts and share information.
As usual, theory leads to practice and here you’ll have the chance to see work in progress projects like the building of an OEFFAG Albatross airframe or the restoration of a LeRhone original engine!
Koloman and his skilled employees will guide you trough all the “secrets” and allow you to learn from the experience gained during the Craftlab 15 year long journey. You will also have a close look to any detail, to an extent that is unlikely to have in a museum.
So a weekend devoted to all the kind of aviation enthusiasts, from the historician, to the builder of any scale model from 1:144 to 1:1.
So, if you’re willing to have the chance to touch an Albatross airframe and smell some wood flavour, while you got your hands busy, that’s the event for you!

The aviation weekend is planned to be held in late summer/early autumn 2010 in Vienna (Austria) at the Craftlab workshop’s premises – Gatterederstrasse 20 1230
The event would cost 90 euro and will include:

• a 2 days workshop composed by
• a theoretical introduction to the WWI aviation technology, with an overview of different countries
• a practical demonstration of the ongoing activities at Craftlab. Just as an example: after a brief introduction of what a propeller is and how it was designed and developed, Koloman would show "live" how a WWI propeller was produced at the time

• a buffet service (beverage included) for the two lunches and, according to the weather conditions a Saturday night grill

• a dedicated DVD with all the topics of the event

the event would be held at the Craftlab's premises on 28th and 29th August 2010

Accepted payment methods are credit cards and Paypal, bank transfers would be accepted on request.

The number of participants will be limited to a maximum of 20, the although we're planning to optimize to 15. The enrolment will be considered valid only after the receipt of the payment.

Soon will be available an ad-hoc guide to hotel accomodation and public transport in Wien area.
Few car park places would be available in front of the Craftlab's premises - less than 5 minutes of walking from the local train station.
